Sums it up!
Sri Lanka that is! We’d not long all clambered off the now packed train at Kandy as the guys passed all our bags through the window to us.

The 7 hour scenic train journey from Ella to Kandy was beautiful, rated as one of the most awesome train journeys in the world (not by me, check it out on tinternet).
We are indeed having a splendid time in Sri Lanka, the only hurdle we seem to have not overcome yet is homework time – it’s a battleground and I don’t cope well with it. Read more “Battleground.” →
We ended our 10 days in Unawatuna with a visit to a little beach; Dalawella is shallow, calm and clear. I won’t go on too much about the turtles we snorkelled with but I will just say it was truly spectacular and to share the experience with John and the kids too was amazing. We also went to Jungle Beach, which again was gorgeous but a bit too busy as it was so small and had too many smoking Russians. You know how I feel about smoking (if you don’t, where have you been?) and I’m pleased to announce the Sri Lankans in general don’t smoke, it’s the Europeans and Russians you’ll smell first. Wow! Kids up at 4am this morning to go to Udawalawe National Park. They were AMAZING yet again! bright as buttons, super helpful and confident.
Short trip via tuk-tuk today to Jungle beach via the Japanese Pagoda Temple, a beautiful place that combined the blindingly bright reflection from the sun with the cool shade of the dome’s overhang and a breeze from the sea.
So, another day and a trip to the nearest city in this south western corner of the country – Galle. We spent the morning and the ridiculously hot middle of the day (we still haven’t got our timings right around getting out early/ to bed early to avoid it) walking the Fort walls.
We moved from Colombo and traveled south for 2.5hrs in a taxi to our second destination. Unawatuna is a beach town, the beaches are glorious But it’s still noisy, dusty, dirty and the roads are chaotic.
I went to a beach and dug a hole. It was so big, I could crawl through it. I like the sea here because the waves aren’t deep. Read more “My Beach Days” →
Business idea no.1…Tuktuks in Chinley. We’ve spent the last 8 months researching, child car seats, child safety rules in different countries, top end insurance for our trip, safety this, safety that, then we go and squeeze the four of us into a bloody tuktuk which is basically a 125cc moped with a cart on the back – in the busiest city in Sri Lanka where there’s only one rule of the road…that’s…there are no rules. Everybody abides by this important rule so it works just fine.
So we’re on the beach! 1 lift, 2 planes, 12 hrs flying, 5600 miles, way too may films, 1 taxi, 1 tuktuk is all it took! Ooh, and a dash of jet lag!
