It’s been 19 years since I’ve seen David K, my friend from Manchester Uni. I politely invited ourselves over to see him in Vancouver when we were planning our trip over a year ago. Read more “Vancouver – Calgary.” →

After leaving the stunning Kings Canyon National Park and the Sequoia Natuonal Forest we headed to San Francisco.

This small but significant portion of our trip was a huge milestone for us. It was a year ago when we started to plan our attack on the Grand Canyon, we’ve researched it to within an inch of its life, we’ve looked at pictures with the kids, we’ve compared previous hikes in different countries to the trails of the Grand Canyon so the kids can get an idea of the task ahead. Costa Rica
We (I) survived our 4 flights in 3 days in order to get to Costa Rica, the flight from Iguazu was our most turbulent yet…we’ve been lucky that most of our 20 out of 26 flights have been manageable but this one was sweaty palms and squeaky bum time. Read more “Costa Rica – yeah baby.” →
Argentina
It wasn’t on my list of places I’d like to see, it was John’s idea so I just went along with it with quite low expectations. I thought John was keen to visit Argentina because of its obsession and history with football. Read more “Argentina. Waterfalls and Wings.” →
Chile
Yes, it’s official, we like Chile – a lot.
We took our 12th flight from Auckland to Santiago, I wasn’t looking forward to sitting on a plane for 11 hrs but it actually flew by quickly (geddit?) Read more “Chile. And Dog Shit.” →
New Zealand
We’re exactly halfway through our trip now with 11 flights under our belt. In all that time we’ve had so much good luck, everything seemed to just fall into place at the perfect time.
Australia
Our two city stops of Melbourne and Sydney were special, not only do John and I absolutely love Melbourne but we met up with some friends and family in Sydney. Read more “Family and Friends” →

A few thoughts on things we’d do differently when travelling next time.
We’ve learned a few things on our trip, so maybe these tips will help you should you consider going to any of the places we’ve visited. Read more “Things we’d do differently…” →

Yea yea yea, blah blah blah, traveling round the world, great, but how much is it gonna cost? Read more “How much then?” →

I don’t mean the people are backward, I mean I’m writing this blog backwards as it’s been so long since I’ve written one, I’ve forgotten half the stuff we’ve done, plus, the kids and John are on top of their game so I don’t need to write quite as much. Read more “South Australia / backwards.” →
Australia
Now, you know I’m naturally tight and I don’t part with money easily but Australia is really bloody expensive, especially the supermarkets, we’ve not dared eaten out yet so I can’t comment on that. Hummous, £4.50! Camembert £7! Bananas £2 kg! Everything, 3 x the price. Petrol is cheap though at 75p litre. Read more “Australia, it’s bloody expensive.” →
Thailand
Well, it’s our last day in Asia, we’re in Bangkok and it’s totally bonkers. Our four days here hasn’t done it any justice. Read more “Goodbye Asia.” →
Thailand
So, we’re in Thailand and of course we’re still loving it large, so I’m not going to write a post about what we’re doing and how we’re doing it like the other 3 Edventurers. Instead, I’ve been observing the foods, eating and washing habits of our southeast Asian friends. Read more “Food, eating and washing your bum.” →
Singapore
I LOVE IT! When our numbers come up on the premium bonds, Singapore is where you’ll find me.
Sri Lanka
The 7 hour scenic train journey from Ella to Kandy was beautiful, rated as one of the most awesome train journeys in the world (not by me, check it out on tinternet).
Sri Lanka
We are indeed having a splendid time in Sri Lanka, the only hurdle we seem to have not overcome yet is homework time – it’s a battleground and I don’t cope well with it. Read more “Battleground.” →
Sri Lanka
We ended our 10 days in Unawatuna with a visit to a little beach; Dalawella is shallow, calm and clear. I won’t go on too much about the turtles we snorkelled with but I will just say it was truly spectacular and to share the experience with John and the kids too was amazing. We also went to Jungle Beach, which again was gorgeous but a bit too busy as it was so small and had too many smoking Russians. You know how I feel about smoking (if you don’t, where have you been?) and I’m pleased to announce the Sri Lankans in general don’t smoke, it’s the Europeans and Russians you’ll smell first. Read more “Ella, vomit and spots.” →
Sri Lanka
We moved from Colombo and traveled south for 2.5hrs in a taxi to our second destination. Unawatuna is a beach town, the beaches are glorious But it’s still noisy, dusty, dirty and the roads are chaotic.
Sri Lanka
Business idea no.1…Tuktuks in Chinley. We’ve spent the last 8 months researching, child car seats, child safety rules in different countries, top end insurance for our trip, safety this, safety that, then we go and squeeze the four of us into a bloody tuktuk which is basically a 125cc moped with a cart on the back – in the busiest city in Sri Lanka where there’s only one rule of the road…that’s…there are no rules. Everybody abides by this important rule so it works just fine.

Passports, jab certificates, sun cream, insect repellent, hand sanitiser and credit cards…. just need a clean pair of knickers and we’re off.
England
We’ve been busy since April 2017 researching, planning and deciding where we would like to go and where we would like to stay. It’s really important to me to know where we’ll be staying each night…no, we’re not winging it and ‘just going with the flow’ – this is a military like fine tuned operation, organised, safe and comfortable.
When you’ve got two young kids travelling around the world with you, ‘winging it’ is not an option.
Here are some of the accommodations we’ve booked up to now, from campervans to tents to lodges to cabins to buses to trains carriages to hotels to treehouses to sky high apartments to jungle yurts to farmstays to homestays…not too shabby eh?
