The Atacama
OK, so we’re 4.5 months in, we’ve been to some fabulous places and yes our favourite bits keep getting bumped for something new.
Chile is no different, we’ve loved it all but for me the Atacama has just topped the LOT! Who knew what to expect from this place, the driest place on earth, it’s by no means a typical desert, it’s like being on the moon. I’ve loved the feel of the backpacker town, our self drive tours to geysers, lagoons and canyons, the air, the altitude. It’s like being on top of the world! It’s been helped by Colette picking yet another fabulous place to stay and the positive energy may well be influenced by receiving the news that Arlo has got his school place back after we had to appeal with the help of his wonderful Great Aunt Gillian, or it could just be that this place is jawdroppingly spectacular! Col and I have done big canyons/ landscapes in various places around the world before but our half lost hike in the Valle de la Lune today saw us trek along the uppermost ridges of several peaks and scramble down a ‘no climbing’ route that MapsMe led us to as we sought a way back to the car. We’d stop and all gawp in wonder. At one point Arlo calls over, ‘mummy come and look at this view it’s beautiful’……at 6! He wasn’t wrong, it was ALL beautiful. So there it is, Chile’s high up on the list and the Atacama is top! Argentina tomorrow. It’s got a lot to live up to.
