Geyser

Geyser

Today we went to see the Lady Knox Geyser at  Wai-O-Tapu, a Geyser is basically a mini volcano except it doesn’t shoot out lava it shoots out hot  water at over 100*C in New Zealand (correction, not all over NZ, mainly in North Island, in Rotarua) we were really aware of the volcanic action underneath the ground.

It isn’t every day that you see steam coming out of the gutters as you walk along the sidewalk, (the steam and the stench is sulfur,)  the Geyser erupted for about 15 minutes, it was awesome I enjoyed seeing the Geyser partly because in my year in school they are doing the vikings and Saxons and I know that my friends built their own volcanos and made them explode (hopefully all of the class are still in one piece) now I know that this is not a long blog but it was all I could think of. I liked going to the Geyser because I got to see it explode.

P.S the word Geyser is pronounced – gizer not geezer

Then we went on a long walk around the rainbow sulfur pools, when we got to the campsite we dug a hole in the joining hot water beach and then hot water came up from the ground and we could bathe in it. We were really lucky at our campsite because we could bate in hot water pools at any time, we could even use the traditional Maori seam oven called hangi. We cooked the best sweetcorn we have ever had!
