To the BEACH!

To the BEACH!

Fabulous day at Sahana beach. Great little local cafe serving ‘shorts’ (snacks not double vodkas!). Genuinely friendly surf school peeps (MSP), lovely with the kids, relaxed and no pressured sales thing going on.

The majority of the day was spent in the water. Body boards were given a go but quickly dismissed by the kids as inferior to the joy of simply having the waves just wash you ashore. This is a great beach that works really well further out for those wanting to learn to surf but is also safe in the breakers for our two. The only issue with a full day on the beach is the dreaded sun! Poor Henna, who never leaves the water (not even for a wee) ended the day with slightly more pronounced tan lines than she’d hoped for! She’s fine though – a city day in Galle, covered up tomorrow will help too.
We got the bus there and back. 5p adults, half for kids – though you gotta be quick as the last man on! As soon as one foot hits the running board, the bus pulls away, so you have to get a hand on first or you’ll go arse over tit!
Once you’re on it’s great though, so long as you can hold your nerve as the bus lurches wildly down the road. Tuk-tuks, cars, motorbikes and pedestrians are beeped to within an inch of their lives until they succumb to the threat of the mighty, loud music playing, twinkly lighted, thundering shrine that is the beastly bus!
MARVELOUS! (That’s just for you haze )πŸ˜‚
What’s weird is that early morning when I’m out for a run, there’s road cyclists out there commanding the roads before the early morning chaos begins! There’s that universal camaraderie of nods, waves and finger taps that exists between people up and about at crazy hours doing stuff just for the sake of keeping moving! Reminds you that we’re all the same, anywhere in the world and isn’t that just bloody brilliant! Still – the sooner we can get out of the EU the better eh! Tiny island mentality r us!
(That’s just for you Gillian) πŸ˜‚
Back to the sanctuary of a freshly cleaned apartment, now fully stocked fridge/kitchen and we were all set for showers, food and catching up with journals. Wifi has now finally kicked into action too, so we can upload latest images. Vids are proving a slower process as we ideally want to edit together short highlights rather that put visitors to the blog through the excruciatingly, mind numbingly boring experience of sitting through god knows how much footage on the beach/ from tuk-tuks/ temples andonandonandariston!Β  After all the intention of the blog was really just to use as a repository for all the kid’s experiences and memories.
Don’t worry Ken! All original footage will be kept safe and secure behind the scenes! And in 4K too! 😜

Another day done! We’re only a week in!

We are all really enjoying your updates. Photos are fab too. Katy is trying to remember Henna’s penguin song- maybe she’ll check at Brownies on Tuesday. Well done to Henna and Arlo for your fantastic teaching skills! Henna I hope your hot sunkissed back has cooled down a bit. And as for Colette’s spotty botty let’s hope that’s all calmed down as nobody wants to see you scratching all the time!! Time to get some big coverall knickers? It’s been chilly in Chinley this weekend and very windy. We’ve taken 9 Chinley girls on the train and bus today to go ice skating in Sheffield for Katy’s birthday. How brave are we?? Now we are enjoying relaxing with a glass of wine! Katy is fast asleep in bed. Take care everyone and keep up with the updates when you can, it’s lovely to read about what you are up to . Lots of love from us 3 xx

Thanks for the lovely long reply H, it’s good to know normality is still resuming in Chinley.
